The European Topic Center for Land Use and Spatial Information is organizing a competition with a view to recruiting a highly motivated and well qualified temporary agent to work as Environmental analyst with an experience in spatial analysis.

ETC LUSI is an international consortium assisting the European Environment Agency (EEA) in its mission to deliver information on the state and trends of the environment to policy makers and the public. The lead is the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona.
The place of work will be Bellaterra near Barcelona, Spain.
The provisional commencement date is February 2009.
Job description:
The GIS analyst will be responsible for the realization of a wide variety of spatial analysis tasks in the framework of the agreement with the European Environmental Agency, or other European projects. A clear and a wide knowledge of existing technologies in the field of the Geographic Information Systems, databases and SDIs will be needed.
Duties:
• Contribute to the specific requests of the EEA regarding geographic information systems tasks.
• Contribute to modeling and data integration/assimilation capacities as part of the development of the Agency’s spatial data infrastructure.
• Cooperation with other European topic centers in specific tasks.
• Participation in other European projects.
• Implementation of projects in cooperation with consortium partners

Formal requirements:
Candidates applying must satisfy the following general requirements on the closing date for the submission of applications:
• Citizenship of one of the Member Countries of the EEA;
• Enjoy full rights as a citizen;
• Have fulfilled any obligation imposed by law concerning military service;
• Meet the educational requirements as described under “Eligibility”.
Education certificates and diplomas:
• A university degree relevant to the field concerned attested by a diploma.
• Master degree in GIS would be an asset. Range of professional experience and skills:
• A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience (in an international environment would be an asset) , in particular in the area of environmental information including expertise on analyzing the spatial dimension of environmental issues and the connected policies;
• Proficiency with Geographic Information Systems analysis and geoprocessing.
• Team-orientated and exhibit strong oral and written communications skills.
• Ability to communicate and present the ETC’s position in international workshops and conferences
• Good organizational skills and highly developed interpersonal skills.
• Good command of English. Good command of Spanish would be an asset.
Specific GIS skills:
Geoprocessing: using a wide range of GIS tools (mainly ESRI tools) Databases: Knowledge of SQL, knowledge of relational databases systems at design level. Experience with PostGIS and/or MySQL would be an asset.
GIS standards, specifically OGC and ISO19xx standards. Knowledge of Spatial Data Infrastructures and Data Models would be an asset.
Benefits and Compensation
Compensation and benefits are determined by the rules of the UAB.
Salary: From 24.500€ to 32.000€. Depending on experience and qualifications.
